Memberships
Instead of spending my lil' media budget on a few extra streaming services, I support these communities of practice with small, regular contributions. It's a small step, but tbh it feels good, and I get endless reading material out of it.
- American Society for Cybernetics to facilitate inter-/trans-/meta-disciplinary thinking and doing.
- Biomimicry Institute to design natural systems instead of unnatural systems.
- Kawaakibi Foundation to bring about a world free from tyranny.
- The Marginalian to encourage meaning-making with a sense of wonder.
- The Nature of Software toward software design materials that heal instead of hurt our environment.
- The Sensemakers Club to learn how to make sense of messes together.
- Special Projects to walk and talk and develop healthy archetypes for future generations.
- Wreckage/Salvage to consider potential cultural and technical futures.
Potential memberships
I'd like to support these organizations in the future:
- Albert Einstein Institute to equip and organize non-violent action.
- All We Can Save to protect our environment.
- Bluesky Public Benefit Corporation (Bluesky PBC) when subscriptions launch; to steward a flagship Atmosphere application.
- Distributed Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (DAIR) to recognize signal in the face of all the noise.
- Drupal Association to keep web content management open source and accessible.
- Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) or a similar standards body when stewardship of the AT Protocol is transferred from Bluesky PBC.
- World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to maintain a resilient and accessible digital commons for everyone.
Other subscriptions
I do still subscribe to a few media services like Apple One and Amazon Prime. But I’d like to change some of that. We vote with our attention. More soon. :)
